Samsung’s 5K monitor has good gaming chops and a great price

There are rather a fewer 5K monitors retired there. Many of them are designed to entreaty to Mac users who are looking for cheaper Studio Display alternatives without giving up the pixel-dense 218ppi screen. However, if you’re funny successful proceeding astir 1 with gaming chops, Samsung’s 27-inch Odyssey G80HF seems similar 1 of the champion monitors retired determination to fulfill your niche, but respectable desires. Currently, you tin drawback this exemplary for $599.99 astatine Amazon and B&H Photo, which beats its champion terms by $100.

Samsung 27-inch Odyssey G8 5K monitor

Where to Buy:

• $949.99 $599.99 astatine Amazon
• $949.99 $599.9 astatine B&H Photo

The G80HF supports 2 show modes with its Fast IPS panel: 5K astatine up to 180Hz refresh rate, oregon 1440p with up to a 360Hz refresh rate. Samsung touts Nvidia G-Sync compatibility arsenic good arsenic AMD FreeSync Premium to guarantee the monitor’s refresh complaint remains successful lockstep with your GPU’s framework complaint output. The show features a DisplayPort 2.1 larboard (just one, and Samsung doesn’t advertise its bandwidth), 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, and a USB hub for charging oregon connecting 2 USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 accessories.

As a gamer, 1 of my favourite features present is the one-millisecond effect time. That’s a precise communal spec among gaming monitors — adjacent successful ones that outgo hundreds little — but it’s a spot of a uncommon spec successful a 5K show astatine this price. I tested KTC’s sub-$500 exemplary past year, and gaming connected it was a beauteous atrocious acquisition contempt having what it claimed to beryllium gaming-ready capabilities.

For $200 much ($799.99), LG’s 27-inch UltraGear evo 5K Mini LED monitor delivers somewhat amended specs. It has much dimming zones for a much close picture, it tin get brighter, and it supports USB-C video input with 90W powerfulness transportation output to complaint your instrumentality arsenic you usage it. Its dual mode refresh rates aren’t arsenic precocious arsenic Samsung’s (165Hz / 330Hz), but I don’t truly spot that arsenic overmuch of a downside.
